Rolfe is masking a troubled past. He loved someone (Nakoma) so deeply and was betrayed. They met while he was on one of his missions overseas, and they fell in love. But she was betrothed to Kocoum the whole time, and when he discovered this, he left, heartbroken. He is now flippant to hide his past and arrogant to maintain his position of power. He does everything in his power to avoid returning to the land of his one true love, lest he start a war by killing either her or Kocoum in revenge (an event he may or may not be training for just in case).
